Mission statement
Following is mission statement by Geo TV:
"GEO
will be the voice of freedom from the Asian subcontinent. It will highlight
the issues of concern and the cultural richness of its people through
information, discussion and entertainment. GEO will propagate
transparency of responsibility that will ensure its position as the most
credible and meaningful source of information, through quality programming
based on issues."
About the Channel and its programs
GEO's name probably comes from the fact that it utilizes a
Geosynchronous orbit satellite for its transmissions. However, in the
Urdu language of Pakistan, the word GEO also means "Live On".
GEO news shows include Aaj Kamran Khan Kay Sath hosted by Kamran Kahan and
Capital Talk where Anchor is Hamid Mir.
Follow up with Fahd hosted by Fahd Husain is another Geo show in english.
Hans Blix, Shimon Peres and Angelina Jolie are three personalities, among
others, who were interviewed this year by Fahd on the program.
GEO has many entertainment programs as well, especially the ever
popular half hour soap operas which are called drama in Pakistan.
While a forerunner when it comes to on-the-hour, every hour newscasts. A
definite plus with
GEO
was a ready team of journalists employed by the Jang Group of Publications
that owns it. Branching out from mainstream print to electronic media meant
that there was already a ready pool of correspondents all over the country.
On the other hand, these correspondents seem to have no idea when it comes
to practicing media ethics.
